How many of you do the same fitness routine each day? Do you run 5 miles every day of the week or do the same work at home dvd? The key to all-around fitness is to vary your workouts on a daily basis. For example, run one day, swim another, and lift weights another. WHY? By changing it up frequently your body will reap the maximum benefits:
- Decrease the likelihood of injuries by using different muscles. If you continue to use the same muscles daily, you do not give them time to rest and recover, increasing the risk of injury. Also decreases likely hood of overuse and chronic breakdown of bones and tendons too. Makes sense, right?
- Helps your body burn ALL types of fuel… how? When we exercise, we burn both carbohydrates and fat. But depending on the length and intensity of exercise, we burn one more than the other. Short, intense workouts like sprints, burn carbohydrates, while longer, sustained workouts like a 5 mile run, burn fat. Try switching it up so your body can recover and reap the maximum benefits! If you do the same thing daily your body becomes used to it and stops making improvements.
- Changing it up also helps decrease your boredom! You do not want to workout mindlessly…. you want to be present in your workout and enjoy it. If you become bored you are less likely to stick to your routine too.
